When Trout In The Classroom state coordinator and state council vice chair Brian Cowden left the volunteer ranks to take the Musconetcong Home Rivers Initiative Coordinator job, an important vacancy was in need of filling. New Jersey TU’s TIC program has experienced unprecedented growth state-wide with more and more schools expressing interest each week. Fortunately, given the strong working relationship between TU and NJ Fish & Wildlife, our council and the division were able to find a win-win solution for the long term. Jessica Griglak, a division naturalist at the state’s Pequest Trout Hatchery, was selected to oversee the TIC program state-wide. This allows TU to focus on growing this hands-on conservation based education program throughout the most densly populated and industrialized state in the union, reconnecting our youth with the out of doors. This important partnership between TU and F&W ensures that TIC has the support it needs as it continues to bring students into the world of our coldwater resources and the state fish, the brook trout.
