As of early November the number of Trout in the Classroom (TIC) tanks is up to 62 state-wide! As of this writing, most schools have had their brook trout eggs hatch and are enjoying watching the sac fry as they absorb their egg sacs and become free swimming fry (alevin). Students enjoy all stages of the fish’s life cycle, but it is very exciting one the fry are free swimming and in need of food. Plans are also in the works to have a student from each of our middle and high school TIC programs attend a summer (’08) conservation workshop to be likely held at the NJ School of Conservation which is an extension of Montclair State University in the Stokes State Forest area of northwestern NJ. Stay tuned to more information on this exciting program!
