NJTU is a leading voice in the fight to protect undeveloped watershed habitat. Using targeted Open Space preservation programs, Wild/Scenic River designations, and legislative advocacy, NJTU keeps our wild places wild.
Remove impediments to free flowing water
By eliminating dams and improving channels and stream banks, historically endangered rivers CAN be reinvigorated. NJTU is at the forefront of programs organizing, funding, and advocating this important work.
Hands-on help for damaged rivers
Stream clean-ups and bank-stabilization efforts require coordinated, grassroots volunteers who aren't afraid to get wet. NJTU's ten local Chapters devote countless hours working on and around our state's rivers and streams.
Teaching future river-keepers
NJTU's award-winning Trout-in-the-Classroom program is our bet that a future generation of New Jersey residents will appreciate the importance of clean, cold, running water and share the experience of hands-on conservation.
For more than 50 years, Trout Unlimited’s mission has been to conserve, protect and restore North America’s trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. But we're more than just friends of America's best-known rivers.
What started as a handful of passionate fishermen is today an extensive and dedicated grassroots volunteer network working to accomplish our mission at the local, state and national levels. We sweat the small stuff, too.
TU members and professionals testify before Congress, publish a quarterly magazine, intervene in federal legal proceedings, and work with the organization’s 152,000 volunteers in 450 chapters nationwide. We get things done!
